Arya Samaj was established in Singapore in 1927 in a shophouse in Rowell Road. During the Second World War the activities of the Arya Samaj was interrupted by the Japanese occupation. The movement's present building at Syed Alwi Road was opened in 1963 by Mollamal Sachdev, whose family gave generously to the building fund. The building is used as a community hall for weddings and other traditional celebrations such as Deepavali and Holi. The Arya Samaj has started teaching Hindi at its premises through the D.A.V. Hindi School. The Arya Samaj also has a Vedic library. In 1975, the membership of the Arya Samaj in Singapore stood at approximately 350. == References ==
